What was interesting with this room at the hotel Windsor, was the opportunity to do something ”site specific”. In my case, it meant to deal with the dialectics between a painting and the space in which it is shown.
Here, the painting is shown where it has been painted.
Something between Matisse painting in his hotel room and Brancusi showing his studio. This room is also an installation because we had to think about the furniture and the bathroom. It is also something ”in progress” because we will have to make some changes.
The silkscreen is, of course, not by me (the flowers),
but it has a stamp on its back that says: “sign your own name”. It is what allowed me to put it there. It plays with the piece in the bathroom and the room itself relates, I hope, to the other rooms of the hotel.
I was sorry that we had to cover Antoine Beaudoin’s fresco to do something, I guess, more ”modern”, but it is the rule of the game and one day another artist will come and maybe do his own thing. I wish him(her) good luck. In the meantime, I hope that this room will be ” une chambre d’amis”.
